Our methods

Because every seam is saddle-stitched by hand, a cut thread cannot unravel it. We keep the thread and hardware for every piece we have ever sold. Orders leave Zephyrhills within 2 business days. Unused pieces can be returned within 30 days.

A small range, made over and over

We carry 13 pieces across 4 categories, between $28.00 and $150.00. Every piece is cut from the same two hides and stitched the same way. That is what lets one person finish a bag in a day, instead of a factory turning out forty badly. Keeping the range small is also how we can keep hardware and thread for pieces sold years ago.

The hide

Vegetable-tanned cowhide from a tannery that still uses bark liquors and takes weeks over it, not the chrome tannage that takes a day. Vegetable-tanned leather starts pale and stiff, then darkens and takes the shape of whatever you did with it. Chrome leather looks the same on day one and on day one thousand, until it cracks.

Stitch and repair

Saddle-stitched by hand with waxed linen thread, two needles through every hole. A machine lock-stitch unravels from one cut thread; a saddle stitch does not, because each stitch is knotted against the next. If a seam ever fails, send it back — restitching is usually free and always cheaper than you expect.
